Self Portrait, Charcoal on Paper

Roberta is a London based artist, strongly drawn to the landscape as a source of inspiration and meditation. Roberta trained in Canterbury, completing her MA in 2006. Having grown up within a 5 minute walk from the beach, she found a strong connection with the Kent coast. Seascapes continue to dominate Roberta’s practice and complement her love of walking by the coast, which offers her the ultimate form of escapism. Her paintings are created from memory, drawings and photographs – taking on a new abstracted life, back in the studio. The key artists who have informed Roberta’s art are David Bomberg, Frank Auerbach, Richard Diebenkorn and Peter Lanyon. Searching for new ways to express experiences and feelings through the medium of paint are what makes painting such an essential part of Roberta’s existence.
